White Hat Marketing... Is there a reason for the name or do you just really like white hats?
I'm glad you asked! White Hat is a term used for hackers that break into computer networks in order to expose flaws or security issues. They use their technical knowledge for good. BUT... that has nothing to do with why I named my company White Hat :) Here's the real story:
As a young boy, i remember watching old westerns with my Dad. They were his favorite - especially ones starring John Wayne. During one of these movie's climax, my dad shouts, "Here come the White Hats!" as the heroes rode in and saved the town from the villainous banditos.
"What does that mean? White Hats." an inquisitive 5-year-old-me asks. I got a full history of movie cowboys and how Roy Rodgers (pictured above), Tom Mix, Gene Autry wore white cowboy hats in the 1930's to be instantly recognizable as the 'Good Guys'. He went on to explain the philosophies of White Hats and how they lived their lives keeping farmers, ranchers and small western towns safe from the bad guys.
I doubt he meant for that conversation to be as important in my life as it was. But at that young age I knew I wanted to be a White Hat! In my teens I realized I couldn't ride a horse very well and cowboy boots were never quite comfortable to me. But the philosophy of living my life as a good guy remains important even now.
